Over the Edge by Stuart Pawson

Publisher: Allison & Busby ISBN: 0749083026

Reviewed by Stephanie Padilla, New Mystery Reader

Detective Inspector Charlie Priest is one guy you would love to have a beer with.  Affable, charming, and possessing more than a trace of a sly and wily wit, he's simply a nice guy.

In this latest, Pawson's tenth outing featuring Priest, there's more than one murder on the table that needs solving.  The first is that of an older man with dubious ties to the underground whose body was found in the river bound and gagged.  The other is that of Tony Krabbe, a famous and sexy mountaineer, one, who as it turns out, had many more enemies than friends.  And while at first it appears that these cases have nothing in common, it's soon discovered that they both are connected to a wealthy and powerful man who doesn't always play on the right side of the law.  And what follows is a wonderfully detailed police procedural that entertains as it charms.

Never having read a Pawson novel featuring this wonderful character, I was easily taken in with both the detective work and the amusing and genial Priest.  This won't be my last, and if you've never read Pawson, definitely join me in making this your first…you'll be enchanted.
